Dream accommodations in fakarava:

Fakarava offers a variety of accommodation options for all tastes and budgets.

Havaiki Lodge :

Located a few kilometres from Rotoava, facing the turquoise lagoon of Fakarava, Havaiki Lodge is a pension that almost looks like a charming small resort in the heart of the Tuamotu. Placed along a white sandy beach, it offers a feeling of escape from the first moments

Havaiki offers about fifteen comfortable bungalows, some nestled in a tropical garden, others directly facing the lagoon, a stone's throw from the water. The architecture mixes natural materials, local decorations and modern equipment: private terrace, bathroom, hot water, and air conditioning (a real plus under the tropical climate).

In the morning, a continental breakfast prepares you for your excursions, and every evening a different dinner awaits you in a friendly atmosphere and often punctuated by local music, where you can taste dishes combining local flavours and French or Chinese influences.

On site, the pension is full of activities to enjoy the lagoon and the island: kayaking, cycling, snorkelling, canoe, half-day or day excursions (green lagoon, bird motif, pink sand beach), Polynesian massages, and even a pearl farm where you can discover the art of black pearl cultivation.

Tetamanu Village :

Wilder, more intimate, Tetamanu Village is located south of the atoll, not far from the famous South Pass of Fakarava. Where Havaiki is a "quiet resort" to the north, Tetamanu offers a more rustic and diving-centred experience, ideal for those whose adventure is at the heart of the trip.

The main asset of Tetamanu is its direct proximity to the South Pass, i.e. a dream location to go diving early in the morning or evening, or simply observe the sharks from the shore. It is a privileged starting point to live Fakarava on the wild side.

The bungalows of Tetamanu Village are rougher, sometimes close to the "diving camp" style: less sophisticated than in the north.

Unlike more "touristy" lodges, there is no sophisticated restaurant or à la carte service. Meals are prepared by the pension team and often taken together in a common area: a large terrace or a shaded corner with tables and benches. This creates a family atmosphere, where travellers exchange about their dives, excursions or anecdotes of the day.

Gourmet secrets of Fakarava: where do locals like to feast?

In Fakarava, we don't talk about "restaurants" with large pretentious plates, but rather simple good places where the food is fresh and local, often prepared by local families. Here are my favourite addresses:

1. Snack Korikori, the village classic

This is the spot that everyone knows in Rotoava. Here, you eat freshly caught fish, burgers or raw fish with coconut milk. The snack is small, warm, and the regulars sit on the benches outside to enjoy the sun and the sound of the waves.

2. Rotoava Grill, the place to eat copiously

It's the kind of snack where you almost feel at home. The atmosphere is relaxed, we go there for grilled fish or meat, sometimes accompanied by local vegetables. Residents go there mainly for lunch or a simple dinner after work.

3. The Sleeping Shark Snack

And among the small addresses that make the heart of the atoll beat, there is an essential stop for lunch with your feet in the water: the Sleeping Shark Snack. The menu is as beautiful as the lagoon, either Tahitian raw fish, fish or beef carpaccios, grilled fish of the day, or cheeseburgers and fries.

Adventures and discoveries: the essential activities:

Fakarava is a true paradise for nature lovers and adventurers. Scuba diving in the South Pass, boat trips to observe dolphins, lazing on white sand beaches...

When you live on an atoll, you are never in a hurry. The lagoon decides the rhythm, the wind too. So if you come to my house, this is how I would make you discover Fakarava, without a tourist filter.

In the morning, when the light is soft, I like to go to PK9. It is a simple beach, easy to access, without noise. We swim there, we sometimes fish there, we meet there with family on Sundays. The sand is white, the water is calm, and when the sun is low, the blue becomes almost unreal.

It is often said that Fakarava is a paradise for divers. It's true. But for us, it's above all a place that we deeply respect.

The northern Garuae Pass is the largest in Polynesia. When the current comes in, life explodes. And then there is the south... Tetamanu. There, the lagoon is wilder. The famous South Pass, with its wall of sharks, is impressive. It's not an attraction, it's a natural spectacle.

Even without a bottle, snorkelling is sometimes enough. A mask, a snorkel, and you're already somewhere else.

Tourism providers such as Top Dive, O2 Fakarava, or Havaiki Lodge, offer you their services.

In addition, I would advise you to rent a bike, several providers rent them on the side of the road. You cross the villages, you say hello, you stop whenever you want, and we realise that life on the atoll is not only aquatic.

You will pass by the crafts, the pearl and pareo shops, the public white beaches where you can see sleeping sharks, or the large expanses of coconut trees.

There are two pearl farms in Fakarava: Hinano Pearls and Pearls of Havaiki. Hinano Pearls Farm is located 10km from Rotoava. Teva and its employees will be happy to answer all your questions. You will be able to observe the extraction of the pearl, carried out without killing the mollusc, which will produce 2 to 3 pearls throughout its life. Oyster pearls are raised on site, or bought from other specialised farms. The Pearls of Havaiki pearl farm is the oldest still active on the island. Hugo's technique has been filmed by many media. His demonstration is followed by a tasting of oysters with lemon and a lottery allowing the lucky one to leave with a pearl.

Whether you are passionate about diving, nature or culture, you will find your happiness in Fakarava.
